Momchilov is a fucking genius

Matt Monchilov has always presented sharply executed inspired work, well for as long as I've know him. 

His new exhibit THEY REALLY WANT YOU was no exception. the walls of the gallery were lined in carefully placed studded leather jackets hosting portraits of beloved idols such as Stevie Nicks and Alistair Crowley. 

I was fooled by the life sized sculpture of Lane Kay dressed as Courtney Love passed out in the middle of the show. Even when Matt explained that it was a concrete sculpute of Lane in the position of crashing the party and causing a scene only to pass out drunk on the floor after attempting to steal a jacket, I thought my chain was being yanked.

Momchilov's attention to grotesque detail is chilling, almost as if he were some type of sci-fi movie doctor clinically extracting the raw essence of and individual for perfect petrifaction, but instead of focusing on "perfect" specimens like maybe Barbarella, he has an attraction to the bad-ass, devil-may-care side of society.

the show was fucking awesome.
